The Technology

UNL Up to Date is built on top of Yahoo's Konfabulator and retrieves data from multiple sources. All of the data sources UNL Up to Date utilizes are published freely on the web in open standard XML formats.

• Headline information is published using RSS feeds.
• Weather data is pulled from RSS feeds published by the NOAA National Weather Service.
• Alert information is published using the Common Alerting Protocol defined by the OASIS standards body.

By using and publishing the information in open standards, the data is accessible by any application that can read the XML file. This avoids the use of proprietary technologies, and assures that anyone interested in the information can access it without the need for a client application.
